Emma's Story
The Kerr sisters are creative, lovely, sweet and full of life. Emma has a funky style all her own while Abby is all about the glamour of high heels and long dresses. Emmy loved dancing and Abby performed in theater. Emma and Abby are the best of friends. They love hanging out together. Their favorite activity is building intricate Lego sets and they will spend hours working on it until they finish.
In November of 2014, Emma was diagnosed with pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). She endured more than 2-years of treatment that included several surgeries, nearly 30 spinal taps, intravenous chemo and shots, dozens of blood transfusions, thousands of pills, hundreds of needle pokes and lots of pain and suffering.
In 2016 she was hospitalized with Valley Fever. She lost so much strength that she had to learn to walk again. But that did not keep her from walking in CCN’s Run to Fight Cancer Race. Emma’s true spirit and grit shone as she stood up from her wheelchair to cross the finish line of the Survivor’s Walk.
In 2017 Emma broke her leg due to osteopenia from treatment just months before her Make-A-Wish trip to Japan. But that did not stop her from getting healthy enough to see the cherry blossoms and enjoy the culture, food and sights. Emma’s trip furthered her love for anime and sushi. The late effects of treatment and the side effects of Valley Fever continue to challenge Emma’s health. Trying to do a simple three-point turn in dance class resulted in a dislocated knee cap, reconstructive surgery and more therapy.
Throughout all of these experiences, Emma maintained a positive attitude and to this day, manages to brighten the room with her infectious smile. Emma is currently a thriving young adult. She still loves drawing, video games, Japanese food, culture and movies. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 2022 and began working as a payroll specialist, using her talent for technology and analytical thinking skills. She is still an avid artist and online entertainer, launching her own VTuber business.
