Dr. Patel (Samir) is Professor and Vice Chairman of Radiation Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. His clinical and research interests include the application of proton beam therapy for the use of complex cutaneous and head and neck malignancies. His community focused work also includes helping develop clinical and research collaboration with the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. Samir joined the Children’s Cancer Network Board in 2024 and serves on Fundraising Committee. His favorite event is the John W. Luttrell Scholarship breakfast where he is inspired by the awardees’ resilience and enjoys watching them take the next step in their educational pursuits.
When not working, Samir enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, traveling to wild, natural places and capturing its beauty with photography. His personal life is guided by wabi-sabi, the Japanese art that honors modest living, finding beauty in imperfection, profundity in nature, acceptance of the natural cycle of growth, decay and death, and reverence of authenticity above all.
